1981 STERLING CUSTOM I built this 1981 Sterling, the second one I built in 1980. It was built on a professionally dropped pan that had Bus transporter brakes on the rear and Khia Disk brakes on the front. I completely replace all moving parts including the brake lines, ball joints, cv joints, steering box, heater boxes, etc. I turned the pan over and fibreglassed it to reduce road noise. I added a Superdiff Transaxle and a industrial 1850 cc Volkswagon case with Weber DCNF 42 carburators. These carburators are probably the reason the car won't pass California SMOG, however it did pass with these carburators in 1996. I have a Weber/Holley Carburator which I believe will get the car "smogged" that I will include with the car. The original Sterling Kit was modified to include pop up headlights and an original design rear assembly. I used a commercial truck tail gate hydralics to lift the canopy so it rises in record time. I added German halogen headlights, Cyclone wheels with Eagle GT tires, remote controlled mirrors, full instrumentation, and a Cadillac tilt-telescoping steering wheel. The stereo radio is remote controlled with AM/FM and cassete tapr. The lug nuts and knockoff spinners and interior screws have been gold plated for show quality. The car has an air conditioner, although it has never been charged and I am not sure it works. It has a rear mounted battery and a sixteen gallon gas tank. It has a range of over 600 miles. I am now a senior citizen and no longer have an interest in working on this car. That is why I am interested in selling it. It runs well, looks good, and is fun to drive. I hope someone buys it that will have as much fun as I had in building it and driving it. Sincerly, Stan Collis
